Welcome to the Copperhead Lines Garden Railroad Web Site.  The Copperhead Lines Garden Railroad is located in Grayson, Georgia which is 40 miles East of Atlanta and maintained by Doug Castille.

There was an attempt to start the railroad in 2004, but being on the road every week, I was unable to get the project going.  I actually put down loose track on the ground in July, 2004.  Most of the track was left on the ground over the 4 years.  I am still finding buried track during landscaping of the current railroad.

Construction of the phase 1 of the Copperhead Lines Railroad was started after a 4 year delay. Main line construction was completed in 2008.  The railroad consists of 5' tunnel, 3 bridges (1 is 18' long), and 200' of track. The old Tie Rock had no bridges or tunnels and was one of the smallest garden railroads in the state of Georgia (26' of track).

The Copperhead Lines include three areas as follows.

  1. Caseyville (complete), named for our Black Lab "Casey".
  2. Tie Rock (complete), named after the old Tie Rock Garden Railroad.
  3. Copperhead (complete), named after a snake that lives around our home.

Current plans or phases:

  • Phase 1 (Caseyville) was completed in September 2008 which included 70' main line.
  • Phase 2 (Tie Rock) was completed in October 2008 which included 90' of additional track.
  • Phase 3 (Copperhead) was completed in May, 2010.  Track length is about 200'.
  • Phase 4 (Storage Building) Storage building completed Fall of 2011. Current plans include 3 storage tracks for freight cars.  The sidings and spur will increase the railroad length to 270'.  Target completion has not been determined.

May, 2012 UPDATE: NEW
Spur construction has started!  Putting in new right switch which will start a new spur to the storage shed.  Should be about 40' of track needed to connect to the shed.

JANUARY, 2012 UPDATE:
Cleanup should start this month on the Copperhead Lines.  Will start on new spur to the storage shed.

JUNE, 2011 UPDATE:
A big thank you for the Georgia Garden Railway Society for having their meeting at my house.  The weather threatened, but we were able to have the meeting and a little cooller temps because of the light rain.

MAY, 2011 UPDATE:
Construction of the new storage building spur has begun.  No storage building has been built, but the spur to the planned site has begun.  About 40' of track will be needed.  I removed an old switch from phase 1 and replaced the section with a re-railer.

APRIL, 2011 UPDATE:
The first trains of 2011 ran on Saturday, April 23.  The trains ran in the early evening and into the night.  A few track issues which will need to be addressed, but it was nice to have trains going through Labrador Mountain again.

MARCH, 2011 UPDATE: Spring cleanup of railroad continues.  Have not operated railroad since October of last year.  Several wash outs over the winter will need some TLC.
I have repainted the elevated bridges and inspected for loose copper nails.  My target is to have the railroad up and running in mid April.
